Our work

Since inception, EED has supported over 600 initiatives aimed at promoting democracy in the EU neighbourhood and beyond. This database provides an insight into the work of EED partners over the years. However, due to the sensitive nature of certain initiatives and personal security risks facing some grantees in the restrictive environments where they operate, not all initiatives are listed in the database.

  • Youth for Skopje

    Country: North Macedonia

    For years, North Macedonian activist Dimitar Todoroski has managed Youth for Skopje, a series of concerts to engage youth and promote democratic values. Thanks to EED’s support, Todoroski is organising 10 new concerts that aim to challenge traditional societal norms, disseminate alternative values and foster critical thinking among the youth, encouraging them to see themselves as actors of change.

  • Houloul

    Country: Tunisia

    Established by a group of experienced Tunisian civil society actors, Houloul aims to encourage the adoption of more efficient and effective public policies by the Tunisian institutions, contributing to the country’s political and economic transformation. With EED support, Houloul cooperates with highly-qualified academics, experts and civil society organisations to produce policy briefs used for advocacy activities targeting Tunisian institutions and decision-makers.

  • Youth Farmers Association

    Country: Georgia

    Youth Farmers Association is a nascent Georgian NGO working in the Khashuri municipality, a region with a very low level of civic activism. They work with young people, engaging them in community life and local governance by advocating for responsible farming. With EED’s support, they are conducting awareness-raising seminars and trainings about the importance of activism and civic participation, as well as outdoor activities to introduce young people to organic farming and environmental protection.

  • Metras

    Country: Palestine

    Metras is a dynamic online media platform that was launched in 2018 by a group of Palestinian journalists. They produce insightful analyses in the fields of politics, technology, culture, and society, and have built a wide audience, particularly among youth. EED’s funding will allow them to continue their activities: paying a salary to core staff and writers, sustaining a fellowship programme, and increasing their audiovisual output.

  • Debates on Wheels: Dialogues for a New Lebanon

    Country: Lebanon

    The Joumana Haddad Freedoms Center is a newly established organisation promoting civil rights and dialogue among community members. EED funding will enable the centre to expand their work to include the various regions of Lebanon: the north, the east, the mountainous centre, and the south, in addition to Beirut. They will hold debates on various controversial topics, including the sectarian political system in Lebanon, feminism, LGBT rights and freedom of expression together with local well-respected CSOs.

  • Better Side of Srebrenic

    Country: Bosnia and Herzegovina

    ‘House of Good Tones’ is a grass-root organisation that works with children and youth in the region of Srebrenica, in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The objective of the initiative is to stimulate the development of sustainable peace in the country and affirm inter-cultural values at the local level through activities for youth. The initiative includes the organisation of critical thinking workshops, activism for young people and volunteering community engagement. EED funding will allow the applicant to further develop an active youth community.

  • South Women Media Forum

    Country: Palestine

    Established in 2007, the South Women Media Forum is a key actor in empowering female journalists and activists in Gaza. The group seeks to address the lack of opportunities for female media graduates and the poor educational system in universities, as well as the lack of women's participation in Gazan public and political life. EED funding is allowing them to train young women interested in engaging in media and political work, and to conduct advocacy campaigns that aim to increase women's rights and empowerment in Gaza

  • Ma3azef

    Country: Jordan

    Ma3azef creates a space for the promotion of democratic values through music and writing in the Middle East and North Africa. In addition to publishing online content, they also organise offline events such as exhibitions, live concerts, panel discussions, and public lectures. Ma3azef has become a renowned independent critical voice that challenges traditional values in the Arab world, and EED’s support will allow them to continue their activities, including the development of a recently launched online radio.

  • Observatoire Raqabah

    Country: Tunisia

    Raqabah Observatory is a young anti-corruption and transparency watchdog that aims to improve Tunisian good governance and public accountability of state-owned companies. The organisation seeks to collect data from state-owned companies in an open database accessible to the public, and to monitor and follow-up on suspected cases of corruption and financial mismanagement by state-owned companies, making policy recommendations and proposing reforms. EED’will support Raqabah’s core costs.

  • Arkhé Projesi

    Country: Turkey

    A student-run project founded to counter the erosion of quality in higher education and to promote critical thinking, Arkhé Projesi runs summer school for students and has developed a relevant online presence, with lectures and blog posts about various social, cultural, and political issues. EED’s funding is allowing them to increase their institutional capacity and the volume of their educational activities in the realm of democracy and human rights.
